Colorado State University’s Nutrien Ag Day BBQ returns to campus on Saturday, Sept. 11. Now in its 40th year, the annual event serves as a reunion celebration of community, resilience, and Colorado grown and raised products and their producers. After going virtual in 2020, the family friendly Nutrien Ag Day BBQ is happening on campus at the intramural fields, opening four hours prior to an 8 p.m. kickoff of the CSU Rams versus Vanderbilt Commodores orange-out football game at Canvas Stadium.

Come to the table

Since 1981, CSU’s College of Agricultural Sciences has joined forces with Colorado agricultural organizations and associations for a celebration of Colorado agriculture that honors CSU’s roots and the agricultural producers that provide for our community. Pioneering cattle feeder and emeritus professor of Animal Sciences John Matsushima created Ag Day in collaboration with Thurman “Fum” McGraw, CSU’s athletic director from 1976 to 1986, to support students studying agricultural sciences.

Since 2019, the Nutrien Ag Day BBQ has been made possible by Nutrien. The pregame event features the state’s agricultural growers and producers preparing Colorado’s premier outdoor barbecue from quality Colorado food products to fund scholarships for agricultural sciences students. Net proceeds from the event support scholarships for students in the College of Agricultural Sciences. Annually, the event funds 15-20 student scholarships to reward and promote agriculture’s future leaders.

Fun for the whole family

In addition to the Nutrien Ag Day BBQ, Ag Day festivities will include educational activities for people of all ages. An Education Zone will feature interactive exhibits, including the CSU Bug Zoo, Little Shop of Physics, CSU Forest Service, and partners like the Colorado Department of Agriculture and National Western Stock Show. For the 5th year, Colorado 4-H will also host an array of youth-oriented activities involving STEM and agricultural education.

Tickets

Ticket packages for the football game and barbecue are available at the Ag Day website or by calling (800) 491-RAMS (7267).
